North Star SHRM will be hosting a seminar titled: Top Items to Audit in 2020 It will be held at Great River Energy (17845 East Highway 10, Elk River) on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 8 am to 9:30 am. All North Star SHRM members are invited to attend. In addition, all Elk River, Monticello, and I-94 West Chamber members are invited to attend. There is no cost to attend.

The target audience for this seminar is HR professionals and any small business owners. This interactive session will discuss items employers should proactively audit entering into 2020. Specifically, this session will address recent developments in labor and employment law that impact human resource policies and procedures. Among other things, the session will discuss: (1) Drug and Alcohol Testing Policies; (2) EPLI Policies; (3) Employee handbook pitfalls to avoid; (4) I-9 compliance; (5) job descriptions; and (6) wage and hour issues.

Objectives are:
• Learn Drug Testing Policies and changes in the law
• Learn about EPLI Policies Designed to Protect Your business
• Understand employee Handbook pitfalls to avoid
• Learn about I-9 compliance
• Learn about Employment Agreements

This seminar will be presented by Tom Revnew, a shareholder with the law firm of Seaton, Peters & Revnew.
For over 25 years, Tom has represented employers on a national and local level in connection with the full range of employment and labor law issues. He has successfully litigated a wide variety of labor and employment law claims before state and federal courts and administrative agencies. He frequently negotiates collective bargaining agreements on behalf of employers and has significant experience representing clients in arbitration proceedings arising out of both collective bargaining agreements and employment contracts.

Tom works with employer’s ro avoid costly and time consuming litigation by providing counseling on the full scope of labor and employment law matters. Additionally, Tom frequently trains and/or lectures employers on various labor and employment law topics. Since he commenced his practice, he has conducted hundreds of training programs on behalf of clients, trade associations and various other organizations both locally and nationally. He is a graduate of Marquette Law School and the University of Michigan Business School.
