North Star SHRM will be hosting a seminar titled: Bias Run Amok.   It will be held at Connexus Energy (14601 Ramsey Blvd. NW, Ramsey, MN) on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from 8 am to 9:30 am. All North Star SHRM members are invited to attend.  In addition, all Elk River, Monticello, and I-94 West Chamber members are invited to attend.  There is no cost to attend.
The target audience for this seminar is HR professionals and any business owners.  Unconscious bias does all sorts of good things for us.  It scratches our itches, warns us in scary situations, and helps us sort through the vast amount of information we deal with every day.  That said, unconscious bias has a dark side.  It can affect how we see people based upon stereotypes and negative messaging that bombard us through our lives.  This session will cover what bias is, how we can overcome it, and how to tackle it when we see it in others.
Objectives are:

• How to identify when unconscious bias is at play in employment decisions
• Identify strategies to avoid the negative consequences of unconscious bias
• Learn tactics to handle others who may be affected by their own unconscious bias
