DESCRIPTION:North Star SHRM will be hosting a seminar titled: The Legal Landscape   The Hiring Process.  It will be held at Great River Energy (17845 East Highway 10\, Elk River) on Wednesday\, January 9\, 2019 from 8 am to 9:30 am. All North Star SHRM members are invited to attend.  In addition\, all Elk River\, Monticello\, and I-94 West Chamber members are invited to attend.  There is no cost to attend.\n\nThe target audience for this seminar is HR professionals and any small business owners.  The hiring process continues to get more complicated for employers.  From ban-the-box laws to salary history bans and other state and local nuances\, the maze of employment laws grows every year.  This presentation will help you navigate the hiring process-from posting jobs to offering someone a position\, and legal implications to think of along the way.  The training will cover key legal considerations for hiring and selection-from developing postings\, screening\, processing background checks\, and interviewing to reference checks and final selection.\n\nObjectives are:\n\n \n\n	Understand the laws to know and consider during the hiring process\;\n	Learn proper and improper questions to ask during the interview process\;\n	Understand the importance of having good job descriptions.\n\nThis seminar will be presented by Cynthia Bremer\, Shareholder from Ogletree\, Deakins\, Nash\, Smoak & Stewart\, P.C. in Minneaplis.  \n\nCynthia is the managing shareholder of the Minneapolis office.  Cynthia has extensive experience in employment law and complex litigation matters.  Her practice focuses on representing corporations and corporate management in all types of employment law matters.  While Cynthia's primary focus has been employment litigation defense in federal and state courts throughout the Midwest\, including class and collective actions.  Cynthia advises companies on critical employment law issues involving past and present employees.\n\nPrior to entering private practice in Minneapolis in 1999\, Cynthia was in private practice in North Dakota.  While in North Dakota\, Cynthia was also a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of North Dakota and represented the State in dozens of administrative hearings and appeals.
