SUMMARY:Jim Acers Leadership Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:The Elk River Leadership Breakfast as established in 2004 by Jim Acers to raise awareness and support for local scouting in the Elk River Area.\n\nIn honor of Jim's dedication to Scouting\, we will be presenting two camperships to local Scout youth to attend a summer camp event at Camp Parker. \n\n\n\nMeet the Speaker\, Cal Porter.\n\n\nCal Portner has spent nearly his entire adult\n\nworking career in public service. He enlisted in\n\nthe U.S. Air Force after high school\, serving nine\n\nyears on active duty with assignments in\n\nCalifornia\, Alaska\, Germany\, and Nebraska.\n\nAfter an honorable discharge and a college\n\ninternship with U.S. Representative Jim\n\nRamstad\, he was hired as district field director\n\nand served the 3rd Congressional District for\n\nsix years before transitioning to local\n\ngovernment. He currently is in his 14 year as\n\nthe Elk River City Administrator with 24 years of\n\nmunicipal experience including stops in\n\nPlymouth and Brooklyn Park.\n\n \n\nCal has a BA in Political Science and History\n\nfrom the University of Minnesota\, an MA in\n\nPublic Administration from Hamline University\n\nand is a Credentialed Manager through the\n\nInternational City/County Manager's\n\nAssociation. He has served on boards of\n\nnumerous high school and youth booster clubs\,\n\nis currently an Elk River Beyond the Yellow\n\nRibbon board member and is preparing to serve\n\nas Elk River Rotary Club's president for the\n\nsecond time.\n\nIn his free time\, Cal and his wife Penny\, love to\n\ntravel\, watch hockey\, and spend time with\n\nfamily especially their new granddaughter.
